Life in Ancient Olympia

Attendance in the programme is combined with the students’ involvement of the in the life of local community.

Students actively participate in cultural and social events, (ie film projections, olive harvest, traditional dance performances, visits to museums like the Environmental Museum and the “Babis Papatheodorou” Foloi Museum) strengthening their ties with each other and with the local community. Students also have the opportunity to visit several local wineries and beaches.

Students can optionally attend Greek language lessons and practice Greek poetry, getting closer to the Greek lifestyle. In addition, they can meet with Greek graduates of the Master’s Degree Programme living in the area, where new students learn about the useful viewpoints of previous participants.

Beyond their studies and academic obligations, some students have participated also in sporting events, ie the International Pentathlon Championship UIPM Laser-Run City Tour, the 1st Olympia Marathon, the cycle ride along the “Paris Katsoufis” route “Ancient Elis – Ancient Olympia by Bike” 2018. We even had students who participated at the Athens Marathon and at the Revival of the Nemean Games, at Nemea, where they experienced exceptional moments of sporting competition and emotional highs.

Lastly, each time they attend the Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremonies students can participate in parallel activities and in volunteer work in related events or they can also organize voluntarily activites ie for people in need, and thus apply the values of Olympism in action.
