The Postgraduate Studies Programme is an innovation for the Olympic Movement at an international level, is part of the strategic planning of the University of Peloponnese since the academic year 2009-10 and is governed by scientific consistency.
The philosophy of the programme is in line with the Olympic Movement’s philosophy for the dissemination of the Olympic Ideal at international level, the promotion of knowledge and research on Olympic issues.
The programme specialises in new interdisciplinary subjects mainly from the fields of Physical Education, Pedagogy and the History of the Olympic Games. Emphasis is also placed on the part of major sporting events such as the Olympic Games and their cultural dimensions.
Its educational programme is based on the three pillars of the Olympic Movement, Education, Sport and Culture. These pillars form the basis of Olympism and Olympic Pedagogy and are characterised by three main axes. In addition, emphasis is placed on the training of students from developing countries on the fundamental social issues of multiculturalism and gender equality, quality in education and development through sport.
The programme aims to promote knowledge and research on Olympic Philosophy and Education, the Organisation and Management of Olympic Games, Major Sporting Events, and Olympic and Sport Studies in general, and further promotes the knowledge and development of the subjects covered in the first cycle of the Department.
It aims to create specialized individuals who will organize and manage Olympic and Sports Organizations and promote the development of Olympic Education Programs at a global level. These programs will function as axes of development of societies by contributing to the creation of a scientific background for the development and organization of sports, the eradication of poverty, respect for diversity, the promotion of gender equality, the improvement of health, the fight against diseases, the assurance of progress and peace.
The Postgraduate Program provides students with specialized knowledge at the postgraduate level as well as excellent training for their academic, professional and research careers. A new generation of scientists is being created who have specialized in issues related to Olympic Education, the teaching of values and principles, the approach of ideas and the understanding and creation of democratic principles.
The graduates of the MSc will contribute to the creation of a scientific background for the development and organization of sports. Specifically, the MSc aims to create specialized individuals who will promote the development of Olympic Education Programs at a global level and the development of educational programs aimed at promoting dialogue between young people with different cultural backgrounds, programs that will develop the skills to resolve conflicts and train educators on issues of democratic dialogue and Olympic Truce, Social Peace, Reforms and Strengthening Social Cohesion. Finally, the graduates of the MSc can undertake the organization and management of major sports events (mega events) at national, regional and international levels.
The MSc provides all its students with a high level of studies and adapts its curriculum and research and teaching methods to modern developments in science and technology. The nature of the Program has been shaped both by the general specifications of the corresponding programs of Greek and foreign universities, as well as by the operational content and the contemporary needs and challenges of sports administration at a national and international level.
